Pamper time: Mr and Mrs Smith’s spoiling spas

30 October, 2014
Relax; close your eyes; breathe in it’s spa time. The 2014 Smith Hotel Awards contenders have been announced and here are three fragrant nominees for the Best Spa Hotel. From the tailor-made capital of Vietnam, Hoi An, to a soothing lantern-lit pool in New York’s urban jungle, and a leafy Hampshire hideaway with herb-scented treatment rooms, these stays will have you horizontal and sleepy-eyed in no time.

SONY DSCFusion Maia ResortHoi An, Vietnam
You’ve got every reason to overindulge in daily rubs and scrubs at Fusion Maia Resort, where treatments at the spa (set in tropical gardens) just happen to be all-inclusive. Choose from manicures and massages to all-out pampering sessions, including a seven-day holistic programme. Free daily fitness activities include: a daily workout at 10.30am, two yoga classes, meditation and a wellness consultation at 3pm. Rooms and villas have a calming minimalist feel with white linens, dark timbers and splashes of crimson – the perfect background to the stunning scenery. Oh, and they all have private plunge pools for flopping around in, too. On the shores of China Beach, complete the 5,000-step beach walk in the morning, then borrow a bicycle and head off on an Old Town adventure: sample local cuisine, such as lemongrass chicken, green-papaya salad, or while away the hours ordering tailor-made threads.

Smith Extra A glass of rose prosecco each on arrival. Stay for three nights or more and you’ll also get a set meal and a juice of the day at Fusion Café in Hoi An

Mr&MrsSmith_TheGreenwhichHotel_NewYork_USA (2)The Greenwich HotelNew York, USA
No two rooms are alike at Tribeca hotspot The Greenwich Hotel, and that attention to detail transfers wonderfully to Shibui Spa indulgences, where you can achieve elemental balance with plant-based and organic treatments. The highlight: a 250-year-old wood-and-bamboo farmhouse reconstructed by Japanese craftsmen, housing a lantern-lit swimming pool. Daily yoga takes place at 8am (RSVPs are essential). Choose the N. Moore or Greenwich Suite for seamless spoiling from spa to suite. Each suite has a Swedish Duxiana bed, 30-foot skylights and a bathroom with either hand-laid Moroccan tiles or Italian Carrara marble. For some comfort food, scoot over to Andrew Carmellini’s Locanda Verde for lamb meatball sliders, roasted garlic chicken and chocolate-sourdough tortino to top it all off.

Smith Extra A US$100 spa credit to use at Shibui during your stay

Mr&MrsSmith_LimeWood_Hampshire_UK (4)Lime WoodHampshire, UK
Lime Wood, a former mediaeval hunting lodge set in the sprawling New Forest, is a modern manor that has embraced country life in mind, body and spirit. Cuisine comes with an Italian twist, but champions produce from the hotel’s garden, the forest and local farmers. Herb House spa is a soothing forest oasis where you can practise rooftop yoga surrounded by earthy scents from the in-house herb garden, immerse yourself in a cleansing mud bath or simply bob around in the outdoor steam pool. The main-house rooms have exquisite Italian marble bathrooms in soothing shades of grey and white; for a private retreat, gravitate towards Pavilion 1 for its dramatic vaulted ceiling, four-poster bed and forest-facing tub.

Smith Extra A bottle of champagne
