As Hong Kong slows down for the summer, we bring you all the happenings around town. From cool club nights to great gigs and more, it’s all here in July’s For Your Diary. Get your calendar out and make a note of these dates!

DJ Shortee BlitzDJ Shortee Blitz at Boujis
Shortee Blitz is bringing the UK hip hop scene to Boujis’ annual 4th of July blowout. His cutting, scratching and mixing skills are recognised in the industry… it’s safe to say this global superstar will have you dancing all night as you celebrate America’s Independence Day!

Jack WillsJack Wills Pool Party
Test the waters at the Jack Wills Pool Party where you’ll get to indulge in cocktails while you chill by the pool. Dance the night away as the sun sets and get involved with the water fight… sounds like the perfect way to cool down in this heat! Snag a goodie bag with swag from the British brand as you have a right old splash. See you there!

Kestrels & KitesKestrels and Kites Higher Than Mountains launch
Local indie-folk band Kestrels and Kites are releasing their third EP, Higher Than Mountains, with a bang. Join them for an evening of original music along with bands Pokemon Dad and Seasons for Change. I’ve seen both Kestrels and Kites and Seasons for Change perform live before, and I have to say, Hong Kong is full of talented musicians!

When: Saturday, 4 July, 9.30pm onwards

PrintGreen Monday Summer Carnival
We’re super eco-chic here at Sassy HQ, so you’ll definitely see some of us pottering about PMQ at Green Monday’s Summer Carnival. Indulge in some vegetarian bites and cool down with a box or two of Jax Coco while listening to jazz music.

Room to ReadBeers for Books
Check out Room to Read’s July edition of Beers for Books… yep, it does what it says on the tin! Head over to Culture Club Gallery for a bevvie or two – the bar will donate $10 for each drink purchased to Room to Read – while the literary organisation introduces their work in Nepal. Sounds like a good excuse for after-work drinks, if you ask me…

Female Entrepreneurs WorldwideFemale Entrepreneurs Worldwide
Starting a business can be tough – just ask our Sassy founder Maura! Check out this the launch party of this community, which has been set up to focus on women entrepreneurs around town. Hear the passionate and real-life stories of successful entrepreneurs in the 852.

‘Tis the season for pool parties, so head over to our sister S.A.R. for SPLASH Vol. 12 at Hard Rock Hotel. This one looks particularly fun as LMFAO’s Redfoo will be making an appearance for champagne showers and to party rock with you. Brit DJ Tim Mason will be spinning tunes supported by HK’s very own Arun R. Enjoy!

Melbourne Comedy Roadshow - Urzila CarlsonMelbourne International Comedy Roadshow
Whoever said laughter is the best medicine wasn’t wrong… check out the Melbourne International Comedy Roadshow at Fringe Club, featuring some of the best comedians to hit the 852 in a while. Dave Callan, Urzila Carlson (pictured), ElbowSkin, Andy Saunders and Nick Cody will all be performing. Time to tickle your funny bone!

2Cellos2CELLOS On The Road
Classical music enthusiasts will want to head to KITEC to catch these two young musicians from Croatia. Cellists Luka Sulic and Stjepan Hauser have achieved international success with their musical act, 2CELLOS. And it’s not all classical – they’ve covered Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal”, which gained more than 25 million views on YouTube… sounds like a good night out!

Bump On the OceanBump On The Ocean
Set sail on a junk for a par-tay! Bump brings you the best of Hong Kong’s DJs and of course, a good old-fashioned summer junk party all rolled in one. You’ll be on Tarzan and Jungle Jane (yep, those really are the names of the boats!), which will be linked together for a massive afternoon of partying, swimming, and inflatable ramps! Free-flow drinks and light refreshments will be provided, but don’t forget to bring your own snacks.

W Hong KongShock Wave Summer Series Pool Party 2015
So the sunshine in HK didn’t last very long but no matter the weather, we’re always down for a pool party. Cool down at one of W Hong Kong’s summer pool parties at WET rooftop pool, starting with one this month. The after-party continues with a neon party at WOOBAR… see you there!

Twenty One PilotsSOUNDBOX HONG KONG
HK’s music scene is heating up, especially with the new SOUNDBOX series. The first edition features Twenty One Pilots (off Fall Out Boy’s Fueled by Ramen label), Japanese rock star Miyavi, and local band KillerSoap. I’m looking forward to this one as I particularly heart the boys from Twenty One Pilots.

Blurblur live in Hong Kong
Woohoo… yep, if you’ve got some leftover teen angst to let go of, you’ll definitely want to check out 90s Britpop band blur, who wrote and recorded their latest album right here in our city! Pretty cool, huh? They’re performing for the second time in as many years, so it’s sure to be an exciting concert. Enjoy!

OK GoOK Go live in Hong Kong
The creative trailblazers are back in the 852 with a bang! OK Go, a four-piece band from Chicago and Los Angeles, are bringing their alt-rock performance to the stage in Hong Kong. Hopefully this performance will be packed with plenty of the kookiness that they’re known for.

Life in ColorLIFE IN COLOR: World’s Largest Paint Party
Get your party on at the World’s Largest Paint Party, featuring electronic dance music, artistic performances and of course, colourful paint splayed everywhere! This isn’t the day to wear your fanciest of fancies, put on an old light-coloured t-shirt and get messy!

Hollywood Rd MarketHollywood Rd Market
The Hollywood Rd Market from last month returns, this time at a bigger and better venue. There will be even more food and retail vendors than before, so you can dine while you shop to your heart’s content. I’ve heard rumours of a cook off on Saturday evening… so make sure you stick around to check it out!
